Camp Scouthaven, Freedom, NY ~ July 6-9th, 2013
The Scouts have the ultimate adventure here! From the Polar Bear swim to the pies cooked in the fire before we head to our tents at night, Scouthaven is such a great experience. Four days, three nights of fun-packed adventure...boating, BB guns, Archery, sling shots, nature hikes, fishing, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, star watches and how could we forget Nature Mary's hut where we held snakes, learned about being Keepers of the Earth and how to keep track of the weather (and sooo much more) who wants to go home? No one! This is our favorite time of the year where boys get to be boys! Each year there is a different theme and each Pack builds an entrance to their campsite. Our very own Dr. Livingston's hut was the winner of this year's Best Entrance Award!
Community Clean Up ~ June 3, 2013
The Scouts worked hard picking up garbage along Main and Niagara Streets, and along the canal. After cleaning up our streets we treated ourselves to a little Dairy Queen!!
Arrow of Light Ceremony ~ April 28, 2013
The Webelos Arrow of Light award is the highest award in Cub Scouting. It is the only Cub Scout badge you can wear on your Boy Scout uniform! The Webelos had to complete many requirements in order to receive this special award including outdoor skills, physical fitness, and citizenship just to name a few. Pictured (center) is guest Wade Carlson, from Boy Scout Troop 600 to talk to our Webelos about what an accomplishment this is and to help us in congratulating these Webelos on this special award.
Tonawanda News ~ March 20, 2013
Visiting the Tonawanda News, the Scouts learned all that it entails to put out a newspaper, from chasing the story all the way down to getting it off the presses. Walking through the office all the way back to those presses was quite exciting!!
Sledding at Chestnut Ridge with Boy Scout Troop 600 ~ February 10, 2013
All the Scouts who attended had a great time sledding with Boy Scout Troop 600 at Chestnut Ridge this winter. The Troop cooked hot dogs, soup, and of course lots of hot chocolate! A few scouts even had fun building a snowman.
Kelckenberg Farms ~ October 21, 2012
Visiting Kelckenberg Farm was unforgettable. So much to see and do. Our families came out and milked the goat, had duck races, horseback riding, hay rides, pumpkin picking, and how could we forget those baked goods. Mmmmm....
A Busy Weekend of Service ~ May 19 & 20, 2012
The scouts visited the Saving Wild Horses Ranch in Orchard Park, NY where they pulled weeds, scrubbed water troughs, and helped with some touch-up painting. Aside from the hard work the boys also got a chance to run and play, and learn about the care and training of the horses plus a brief lesson in how to ride.
On Sunday the pack volunteered to help clear weeds from the
house of someone in our neighborhood who was physically
unable to do the work themselves. The boys and leaders did a
great job cleaning up the garden and brightening someones day.

Blue and Gold Banquet ~ April 30, 2012
Thanks to everyone that made our Blue and Gold Banquet such a success. Mayor Ron Pillozi's opening remarks started the evening off very well along with the scout's presentation on the meaning of the Blue and Gold celebration and scouting itself. Dr. John E. McKenna, principal of Fletcher Elementary school also spoke to the audience about the importance of the boy's participation in Scouting. We were also very pleased to have Fire Chief, Charles Stuart and Riverview Elementary principle, Claudia Panaro in attendance as well as representatives of the local Boy Scout Troop
After another short presentation by Friends of Scouting a delicious dinner (from Falletta's Restaurant) was served, and following that an excellent magic show from Todd Nelson, which had the whole audience laughing and amazed.
The scouts received all their awards and recognition for the work they've done this year, with all the boys moving up a level for next year. Congratulations for a job well done!

Go See It - SPCA of Erie County ~ March 29, 2012
In keeping with the monthly theme of Compassion, the boys paid a visit to the local SPCA to learn about their mission "to create a caring and kind community that encourages fair and humane treatment of all creatures".
The pack was given a tour of the facility and learned about the history of the SPCA (founded in 1867, the Erie Cty. SPCA is the second oldest humane society in the country). They met cats, dogs, bunnies and several barnyard animals, and had a great time.

Spaghetti Dinner ~ March 4, 2012
Thanks to everyone that participated in our annual spaghetti dinner, which raises funds to help our boys pay for camp. We had a nice turn out this year for a delicious dinner prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Simonds. There were a number of generous sponsors from the community that donated supplies and prizes for the raffle including TOPS Market, Mineo and Sapio, Gander Mtn., Mighty Taco, Kenmore Lanes, Adventure Landing, Tonawanda Bowling Center, Athena's Family Restaurant and Latina Food Service .
Learning about Electricity ~ February 27, 2012
This month's Pack meeting had a very interesting program on electricity. Mr. Caufield provided all the scouts (plus a couple of siblings) with the supplies they would need to construct an electromagnet and a simple motor as well as a few other experiments. The boys got a quick talk about how electricity and magnetic fields are related. First they made a simple circuit with some small light bulbs and batteries. Next the boys used breadboards and led lights to create parallel circuits. Some big nails and wire were next passed out, the children wrapped the wire tightly around the nail and attached the ends to their batteries and found the nails became magnets and were able to pick up paper clips. The final project was to assemble an electric motor out of a plastic cup, two paperclips, a bar magnet, a coil of copper wire and their battery. There was a bit of fiddling needed but all the boys eventually got their motors running.
City of Tonawanda Police Station ~ February 13, 2012
The pack toured the City of Tonawanda Police Station and learned about the important job these public servants provide for the community. Officer Scholl taught them about the training the officers receive; the equipment they carry, like the protective vest, communication radios and taser plus how they deal with offenders and keep the community safe. The boys got to check out a police cruiser, spent a bit of time in the lock up, met the emergency dispatcher, and also got to see the electronic finger printer.
Pinewood Derby ~ January 30, 2012
The boys had a great time making and racing their cars. The designs were awesome and the competition fierce. Thirteen cars were entered in the race. After many heats and a few smash-ups Eric H. emerged the winner with Brenden S. coming in a close second, Nik C. third and Steven F. rounding out the top four. All the boys did a great job and were excellent sportsmen! Brenden's car was also chosen for coolest design.
